ALOE VERA SKINCARE: WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

We all know aloe vera is a miracle working when it comes to sunburn, but can this natural ingredient work wonders for the complexion? US company Forever Living think so - having developed Sonya Skincare; a collection of aloe vera-based skincare products specifically designed to target combination skin. I tried and tested the collection to discover how aloe vera can improve your complexion:

Refreshing Gel Cleanser  - This product contains a trio of active ingredients: Apple Amino Acid, baobab oil and desert date oil. If you like your skin to feels squeaky clean post-cleanse, I can highly recommend this cleanser. Whilst I’m committed to Lush’s Ultrabland cleanser for removing my make-up, I do like to double cleanse when my skin feels particularly dirty. Just lather up this cleanser with water and wash off for clear and clean skin in a flash.

Illuminating Gel – This product is designed to help brighten skin’s overall tone and appearance and can be applied after your moisturiser AM and PM. Of all the Sonya products trialled, this is the one I don’t think I’ll be integrating into my routine. Now I’m in my early thirties I prefer an illuminator with some luminescence - Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is a current favourite. I think this gel would be great on combination skin, however as the clear gel has a tightening effect.

Refining Gel Mask – Packed with liquorish fruit extracts and peptides, this sleeping mask does the work for you whilst you sleep. Having used a fair few overnight masks in my time, I really liked Sonya’s formulation. Invisible to the eye, the non-sticky formulation is barely perceptible once dry and will not ruin sheets or freshly washed hair.  I like to put this over my night cream to lock in the moisture whilst I sleep.

Soothing Gel Moisturiser – This is the hero product in the collection for me. It absorbs quickly, feels barely there on the skin and thanks to the high concentration of aloe vera and collagen it really moisturises and keeps my skin supple all day (I have dry skin which many moisturisers do not seem to touch so this is no easy feat). I think this is the perfect daily moisturiser – it’s a great base for make-up, too.
