VALENTINES DAY FASHION

Well, it's nearly Feb the 14th and I personally don't know how to feel about Valentines Day. Having spent 19 years simmering with resentment every time the dreaded day came round, it's hard to suddenly love the day just because I have boyfriend now. I would like to add that my mum was always lovely and put a thortons chocolate lollipop in my lunchbox to mark Valentines, but as we all know it's not quite the same as having an romantic admirer.Overall I think it's a pretty mean concept for national day: 'let's make half the population feel good at the expense of making half the population feeling extra crap!!!'

So whilst I hope I get a nice big pressie (ha) I really do wish Valentines day didn't exist.

Anyway, for my Valentines themed fashion post I would like to extoll the virtue of hearts, which are totally hip & fashion forward right now. As seen on the Marc by Marc Jacobs catwalk, heart prints look great clashed against tribal patterns and polka dots in this seasons 'print clash' trend.

RIP ALEXANDER MCQUEEN

Well it's been a sad week for fashion. I know lots has been said about the tragic passing of Alexander McQueen and there's not much anyone else can add, he was so fantastic and at the peak of his career. The look below comes from his S/S10 collection, inspired by Darwin's theory of evolution. Truly amazing, he really made fashion fantastical. What a wonderful fashion designer he was.

CHRISTOPHER KANE SS10 COLLECTION

A word of advice for anyone studying fashion: it can really take the joy out of it!

I'm sure I'll feel more positive post dissertation but at current shopping/buying/browsing fashion is just not as fun.

However, that hasn't stopped me fantasizing about owning one of a lush t-shirts from the Christopher Kane S/S10 collection, feast your eyes on this baby...

He's really captured the beauty of one of those 'isn't nature wonderful' sunsets. The colours are stunning. Shame about the price cough £175..ouch.

Also in the collection are tees and t-shirt dresses and a slouch biker jacket carrying similiar prints. Dreamy.

GILES DEACON S/S10 SHOW

Just been scouring Style.com looking at all the S/S10 shows and drooling over the amazing collections. One that caught my eye in particular was Gile Deacon's fabulous Paris show that was so young, fun and exciting, I can really see these trends trickling down into hip high street brands such as Topshop.

Giles presented us with with a juicy neon colour palette, funky spider prints, and wacky accessories in the form of soft toy dinosaur handbags. Pretty sure I've seen the fabulous green number above (as modelled by Daphe Guiness, oo) on Cheryl Cole in a coral colour on The X Factor way back in November time. Can anyone confirm?

You can't deny that Giles really knows how to make fashion fun, playful and still lust-worthy. Although I'm not sure how well the population of Huddersfield would take to a cuddly dinosaur handbag.

PRINTS CHARMING

I'm snowed in & pretty bloody bored, snow is only of value to me if it's christmas !

Anyway to cheer my sad self up, my thoughts have turned to brighter days and I have been getting excited about S/S10 fashion (only a fashion addict could do that when it's minus temperatures outside!)

S/S10 looks set to be a colourful, vibrant and feminine fest which will come of a welcome breath of fresh air after A/W's studding, leather and gothic trends.

There will be plenty of vibrant prints and fruity pastal colours, or as Vogue likes to call them 'sorbets'. Just check out this fabulous Marc by Marc Jacobs look that we saw on the runway,

-a riot of colour, prints and most importantly, fun!!

If I have any pennies to spare, (which I won't, period.) I will be investing in this 'so cute I could eat it!' purse from Mulberry, so gorgeous but still £70.

All I need is for this bloody awful weather to bugger off and then the fun can begin!

NEW YEAR'S FASHION RESOLUTIONS

Blimey! It's nearly time up for the noughties and what a decade it's been. Looking over Grazia's review of the decade today you have to wonder what 00's will be remembered for- what with reality tv & low brow celebs creating some of the defining moments since the turn of the new century culture certainly seems to have dumbed down somewhat.

Ranting a raving aside, new year for me = new year's resolution's but none of the atypical kind mind. No, I'm talking fashion resolutions, much more fun & much less serious than vowing to graduate. I like to look at my wardrobe and decide what sartorial changes will make 2010 fashion-tastic. Here are my resolutions thus far...

1.Be more daring (& flash a bit of flesh)

I am 21 and feel ok about my figure, yet I rarely flass any flesh. Because I have quite long legs I am concious getting them out can give the green light to perves. But my solution is that I am considering flashing a little bit of tum instead, a more subversive way to reveal skin and less appealing to tit/ arse perves. A perfect new season buy for me would be this ASOS oversize jumper (£35) with mesh insert that makes reference to the glamour/ grunge trend.

2. Wear heels on the odd occasion

I shy away from heels because they make me feel really tall, but I am trying to embrace them and celebrate my 5'10 stature. Just bought this real nice Peacocks skater boots (£30) that would look quite fit with the jumper above I think.

3. Stop buying stuff I don't wear!!!

Pretty damn impossible.

FRENCH FANCIES

It's amazing how appealing blogging suddenly becomes when I have a 3,500 word report wanting to be written. Anything to avoid work!!

Went to Topshop today, I usually boycot it cos everything is too expensive for what it is and falls apart after one wash but I wanted a bandage skirt & no where else seems to sell them at the moment. Anyway rambling aside, I came across the cutest t-shirt in the world, this lovely number with little eiffel towers dotted allover it. And what's more, they're not printed but embroidered giving it a tres chic homespun feel. I was very good and resisted (£22!! not on my budget), but it got me thinking about the allure of Paris and French style in fashion. For me, there's no bigger complement than being told I 'look french', although it's hard to say what that really entails when I you think about it. I guess I think french style is all about being demure, where less =more and flesh is not overtly flashed. The overall effect is understated and yet all the more sexy for it. I hope that's what people imply when they tell me I look french, although they might just be saying I am one string of garlic & a baguette away from looking like a cliche. Hope not.
